GREAT COMMANDMENT LOVE • GREAT COMMISSION LIFESTYLE
Substance Church exists to make disciple-makers. A disciple-maker is someone who has been transformed by God and empowered by the Holy Spirit to live out the passions and priorities of Jesus, which we see as being: a Great Commandment Love, and a Great Commission Lifestyle.
GREAT COMMANDMENT LOVE
Every person who has been given faith in Christ is called and empowered by the Holy Spirit for the same Great Commandment: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength; and love your neighbor as yourself”.
(Mark 12:30-31)
GREAT COMMISSION LIFESTYLE
Every person who has been given faith in Christ is called and empowered by the Holy Spirit for the same Great Commission: “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that Christ commanded”.
(Matthew 28:18-20)
OUR VISION
INVITE • INVEST • IGNITE
We accomplish this mission through our various gatherings and ministries, which all have the same goal: to invite, invest, and ignite others to share and live out the gospel of Jesus in every facet of our lives.
INVITE
We invite people of all ages and stages of life into our own lives. We do this as people who are indwelt by the Spirit of Christ, not just connecting them to a church building, but to the person of Jesus Christ.
(John 1:35–39)
INVEST
We invest in these people, taking time to get to know their stories, helping them grow in their understanding of who God is and what it means to be transformed by the renewing of our minds and to be conformed more into the image of Christ together — serving one another as Christ has served each of us
(John 1:43)
IGNITE
We ignite these people to go out and do these very same things with others. This is the disciple-making model that Jesus gave us. If we don’t reach the point of igniting, then we have not made an actual disciple-maker. Each of us has been called to “go and bear much fruit”.
(John 15:16)
OUR VALUES
GOSPEL CENTERED • RELATIONALLY DRIVEN • GOD GLORIFYING
Values are what motivate and ultimately define us. Values guide our decisions and show what we actually believe about God, ourselves, one another, and all of His creation. Our church’s values answer the question, “What are the things that matter most to Jesus that we want to embody as a part of His church?”
GOSPEL CENTERED
Because we’ve been transformed by the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, we want every part of our lives to reflect the good news of the gospel that was given to us by grace through faith in Christ alone! As the church that Jesus is building, we value keeping the gospel central in everything we think, say, and do.
(2 Timothy 1:8–10)
RELATIONALLY DRIVEN
Because our identity is grounded and secure in Jesus Christ, we are free to sacrificially love others the way Jesus loves us. As the church, we value walking through life’s joys and bearing one another’s burdens together, while loving our neighbors as ourselves.
(Romans 12:9–13)
GOD GLORIFYING
Because we strive to keep the gospel at the center of everything, God receives all the glory as we enjoy him in everything we do! As the church, we value exalting the name of God in our praise, prayers, and proclamation of Him.
(1 Corinthians 10:31–33)
